The Windows 7 - The 7th Miracle of the Operating Systems
by Eric Philips
Windows 7 is the most versatile and powerful operating system known to me
so-far as at this time of this writing. It has remarkable features, which
I will like to highlight in this review article.
I always try to experiment with any new operating system with the hope
that it will exceed my expectation. Unfortunately it always turns out to
be disappointing. With the Windows 7 almost all my expectations about a
great operating system has been meet. My key expectations of a great
Operating System lays within these seven areas:
* Performance, * Simplicity, * Networking, * Security, * Media center
functionalities, * Compatibility, * Power management.
Performance: One of the great enhancements that the Windows 7 comes with,
is the fast repose in operations. The start-up and shot down time, has
been improved greatly. It is faster than you can imagine. Vista cannot
come close to it no matter what. The ability to run 64-bit is another
added advantage because it can support more physical memory and modern
processors. I have Intel dual-core processor in my laptop and I was able
to increase the RAM to 4 GB recently, which I cannot do with my XP that
has a limit of 3.25 GB RAM.
Simplicity: The Window 7 is simple to use. You can manage a lot of open
programs, documents and browse full-screen previews of open windows. You
can Jump list, Snap, Aero-peak and do Window search.
Networking: Windows 7 makes connecting to more Windows 7 systems easy by
using HomeGroup. File transfer performance between computers has been
greatly improved, and connecting to a wireless network is as easy as ABC.
Security: Windows 7 comes with Windows fire wall and Defender as expected.
But the great security feature that I like is the ability to encrypt the
entire drives, both internal and external, though for the Windows 7
Ultimate version. The User Account Control has been enhanced to give more
flexible control.
Media Center Functionalities: Aside from the normal media functionalities
you can get in the older versions of Windows Operating Systems, the
Windows 7 can turn your PC into a TV. You can also watch, pause, rewind,
and record TV on your PC.
Compatibility: Windows 7 allow you to run applications that can only be
run on XP and can't run on 7 by switching it to windows XP mode.
Power Management: The Windows 7 power consumption has been reduced
drastically thereby given more life to laptop batteries, even when using
the DVD drive. Sleep and resume is faster.
Finally I will conclude by saying again, that the Windows 7 is the Seventh
Miracles of the Operating Systems that users like me have been waiting
for. It's fast, secure, stable, visually appealing and easy to use.
